For anyone tired of run-of-the-mill nut butters, may I suggest Beyond Sushi nut butters. I tried their Sunflower Halva Vanilla Nut Butter and we managed to polish off an entire jar before I could snap a picture! This creamy spread has a surprising flavor that manages to be sweet and savory at the same time. I went into Beyond Sushi, a vegan sushi spot in Chelsea Market (there’s also a location in Union Square), to pick up a quick snack and was pleasantly surprised by their new line of uniquely-flavored  nut butters and spreads. I sampled this one and it was love at first taste. At $12 per jar, it’s a little pricey, but you’ll certainly be sure to savor every last drop.

Check out their range of other flavors like Almond Rosemary Chocolate and Cashew Cranberry Sea Salt (pictured) nut butters and according to their Facebook page, they even ship!

Ever need a grab and go breakfast? Like something that’s not a store-bought granola bar, because really, those are so not satisfying. January is National Oatmeal Month (so I’m told) so of course an oatmeal recipe is appropriate this week. Somewhere online I ran across this recipe for oatmeal cupcakes so I adapted it a […]

I love to ski but have never liked being cold so if I had to choose a time to do it, now is the best time of year. Both of us in need of a vacation, David and I planned a long one that would start with skiing and end at the beach (we couldn’t […]

Turnips Two Ways

Wait, before you “turn up” your nose …reconsider the turnip. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I’ve eaten turnips. They’re so often overlooked, because most people don’t know how to cook these ruddy little root vegetables which are high in Vitamin C. Then I had braised turnips at Locanda in […]

When I was 13 I read the book Meat is Murder and refused to dissect a frog in my eighth grade science class (it caused quite the stir, I will say). Ever since then, I have eaten some kind of vegetarian, vegan or pescatarian diet. More than 20 years later, I haven’t missed an ounce […]

A Souper Weekend

I spent the majority of last week on a business trip in London tempered by a brief, but much-needed visit with my bestie, Kathryn, who is living there for a stint working for the 2012 Olympics. When I returned home on Friday, jet lag in tow, I was in need of  a restful weekend, ready […]

I hope by now that it’s obvious that I’m concerned about what I put into my body. But this time of year I take my concern one step further to the Halloween treats I hand out to the kids. But that doesn’t mean I can’t still participate in the festivities. Every year, I post a […]
