A Day in the Life of a Health Coach

marissa vicario shares a day in the life of a health coach

What’s a day in the life of a health coach like?

Last week I posted on Facebook and Twitter that I needed some blogging inspiration.

Crickets. (Really, guys???)

Except for one brave soul, Kara.

She tweeted that she wanted me to write about a day in the life of a health coach – a day in my life as a health coach.

Truthfully, there is no typical day in the life of a health coach. It varies based on individual coach, priorities and projects. For example, one day may be completely dedicated to filming while another is back-to- back meetings. It really just depends.

I will say that as business owner/ entrepreneur, my life is far from glamorous.

The reality is that my life is fairly typical, but I love it and wouldn’t trade it for anything.

A normal work-day looks like this: I wake up early in the morning to meditate, workout and eat a good breakfast. My days are dedicated to any long-term projects I may be working on, social media and marketing, writing and occasional recipe development and meeting with clients and potential business partners. I block time in my schedule for each of these activities and also set aside some time each week to catch up with my intern.

In the evening I’m off to any number of events from networking, to Junior League volunteer commitments to catch-ups with friends and these days – lots of wedding-related appointments.

I try to set aside some down time a few evenings per week when I don’t schedule anything. This feeds my introvert tendencies, which is really important to me to re-energize. These are my favorite moments because it means I get to stay cozy at home, make dinner with my fiance and unwind from the day with a cup of tea. We watch a little TV and catch each other up on our day and sometimes try to squeeze in a little more work before going to sleep around 10 p.m.

Traveling and going on fun dates to concerts or trying new restaurants is important to us both so we prioritize those things often but it’s not an everyday occurrence.

Being an entrepreneur and working from home has its own set of daily challenges:  the absence of a steady paycheck and benefits, time management and lack of regular human interaction, to name a few. There are highs and lows- days when I feel overwhelmed because everything is happening so fast and then days when time may as well be standing still.

It’s all part of the job — one that I created on my terms and that complements a life I love.

What’s a typical day in your life like? Are you living a life you love or do you envision something different?

I love your life! I want your life! I hope to be an entrepreneur someday, so hopefully I can turn to you for advice! I am glad you did not show us a cookie cutter day, because you are right, no day is truly the same!

My days are filled with training for my running career, coaching track and field, and my MBA classes in the evening. I sometimes become too overwhelmed, and I am trying to work on this. I think you may need to give me some help! I cant switch my mind off!

I'm not sure if my first comment worked.  I'm getting an error message.  Anyways....  Well, I suck on Twitter and Facebook so sorry about that. I'm always struggling at breakfast time to fix something easy, healthy and interesting. I feel so bored with my usual. Do you have any suggestions? Also, what's your go-to detox plan (I'm not really interested in a 3 day juice cleanse with a husband and child to feed/take care of)?

YAY! You wrote it! Thank you :) Loved reading this!

Sometimes I miss having other people around when I'm working at home, too. It can get lonely!
