How to Have a Healthy Summer

Michael Strahan worked out with NYC wellness bloggers to celebrate the launch of Meta Appetite Control, which contains 100% psyllium fiber and helps you “break up” with daily snack cravings.

Summer can go one of two ways. You can have a healthy summer and take advantage of the warm weather and fresh produce or you can lush it up and go nuts on rooftop happy hours and Hamptons share houses. For those who are interested in the former, I met with Good Morning America anchor, Michael Strahan, and celebrity fitness trainer, Latreal Mitchell, last week at the Gramercy Park Hotel for a workout and the lowdown on how to have a healthy summer. The day was sponsored by Meta Appetite Control, 100 percent natural psyllium husk dietary supplement.

First things first. What is psyllium husk? In a nutshell, psyllium is fiber. It helps promote digestive health and regularity and keeps you full and satiated. Be careful, because it can have a laxative effect on your body. In my opinion, it’s important to get your fiber from a whole foods diet, first and foremost, but if you need some extra help, adding a fiber supplement like Meta Appetite Control to a morning smoothie, for example, can be a good place to start.

Staying healthy and keeping things regular also means moving your body and drinking tons of water. I walked away with a few key tips from Michael and Latreal:

  • Pencil it in: Micheal pencils in 30 minutes to an hour each day for activity whether it’s lifting weights, taking a brisk walk or doing cardio. He and I are on the same page, because I am always telling my clients to put their workouts in their calendar – like an important meeting or doctor’s appointment.

  • Stay hydrated to ward off snacking and cravings: Drinking water is Michael’s secret weapon for feeling less hungry between meals. He adds a scoop of Meta to his water to help with this and increase his daily fiber intake.

  • Blow off boredom: Latreal mixes up her workouts with fun outdoor activities when the weather is nice. Use the sunshine as an opportunity to try hiking, biking or rollerblading. Who says workouts have to be torturous and boring?

  • No gym, no problem: Don’t let traveling or not having access to a gym stop you from working out. Latreal says your body is the best weight you have when it comes to working out. Start with dynamic warm-ups like butt kicks, high knees and side shuffles to ready the muscles for movement and then g into any type of squat, push-up or plank variation, which are simple exercises you can do anywhere.

Remember, you don’t have to do everything all at once. Choose what you can do and be consistent then add on from there.

How do you plan on making this summer healthy?
