David’s Superfood Smoothie

It all started rather innocently.

I had been slipping greens into what had previously been David’s all-fruit blueberry smoothie. He didn’t seem to care, or even notice for that matter. As long as they still looked blue, I was in the clear.

Then I went to Long Beach and saw David Wolfe make a superfood smoothie.

What can I say, I got inspired. David’s favorite morning smoothie was about to get superfood-ified. I knew this would alter the taste somewhat so I decided I would run the idea by him before I got carried away.

Me: “What do you think about me adding some superfoods to your smoothie in the morning? They have lots of protein and will give you even more energy.” 

David: “Ok”

Easier than expected. The green light meant I was free to experiment. I had been making a few for myself and finally felt like I had a concoction that was suitable to share. too good not to share.

Superfood Smoothie

water from 1 young Thai coconut (if fresh coconut water isn’t available you can use packaged – I like Harmless Harvest or Zico)

handful of greens (whatever you have – kale, collards, spinach, etc).

1 c frozen blueberries

4-5 pineapple chunks

1/2 banana

1 Tbsp chlorella

1/2 tsp maca powder

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 c ice

(Note: All measurements are estimates)

Now, after I send David off to work, smoothie in hand, I get texts like this:
